Fasting
Fasting is the practice of abstaining from food to experience dependence on God. Through fasting, the Holy Spirit gets our beliefs into our bones. While fasting can seem foreign to us, this ancient practice has formed God’s people for centuries: Moses, David, Elijah, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, John the Baptizer, Jesus, and Paul all fasted to experience the power and presence of God.
Jesus assumes that his disciples will fast, and the earliest followers of Jesus often paired fasting with prayer and other practices. As we fast, we are invited to discover dependence on the God who sustains us through His word in every moment of our lives. While biblical fasting always involves abstaining from food, Copper Hills also includes abstaining from social media, entertainment, or other pleasures for spiritual purposes under the heading of this practice.
In our session, we'll explore the history and purpose of biblical fasting to see how we can follow Jesus in this ancient practice to see our lives transformed today.
